Trashy is as trashy does

During the Great Depression, "riding the rails" referred to the many men who hopped on freight trains to distant destinations in search of work. Some never found it, instead living as hobos and often denigrated as human trash.  Today, riding the rails has come to refer to those of us who hop aboard commuter or subway trains for our daily commute into work.  Yet, some folks (users and non-users alike) can't help denigrating the service as trash.

Forrest Gump often quoted his momma, who taught him that "Stupid is as stupid does."  She meant that true stupidness has to do with a person's behavior, not the label or "handsome face" one gives to something.
Sadly, some of the ones calling my trip on the rails trashy are among the ones making it so.
